Description

Former inn "Dry Goten", now a renovated bourgeois house located opposite the Scheldt on the quay of Driegoten. The substructure is said to be a remnant of the "schansse van Dry Goten", a military construction that was taken by the Duke of Parma in 1583-1585 during the siege of Dendermonde and ordered to be demolished. According to the land book of Hamme (1772-1776), Bernardus de Stobbelair was in 1775 the owner of the "caeye bebauwt met d'herberge op drygotten" located here. The elongated construction shows a rounded bulge in the middle of the front and rear. According to the land registry archive (1887) the house of innkeeper E.J. Vertongen-de Stobbeleir had been enlarged; In addition to the garden behind it, the property then included two cesspits and the adjacent quay and dike. According to the land registry sketch, the house then had a square extension in the middle of the front, two semi-circular extensions at the rear. According to the land registry archives, the house was enlarged in 1911 by brewer E. Boel-Vertongen. A large extension was then added to the right rear corner (now with a flat roof).
