Bishop's College

Number 8. Episcopal College. Founded in 1851 as a continuation of the earlier Latin School. Complex buildings located on the grounds of the former St. Nicholas Abbey from the 17th century, preserving the so-called "Abbey Gate" on the Abbey Street side. Original school buildings from around 1867 have now been replaced by a larger neo-Gothic complex with the main building from 1891 designed by architect D. De Nijs (Roeselare) and other wings built in 1891, 1899-early 20th century, 1913-1914 (chapel), and around 1934 (architect J. Leper, Veurne). During the 1950s-1960s, further expansions and the use of the former St. John's Hospital (Houtmarkt, number 15) with a new school building on the Houtmarkt side. New sports hall completed in 1977 at the corner of Houtmarkt and Karel Coggelaan (architect J. Plasman, Veurne).
