The place of pilgrimage and the chapel of Our Lady of Kerselare bear witness to the centuries of Marian devotion in the region, dating back to the 15th century. The fame of the chapel and the statue of the Virgin Mary is due to the numerous miracles that were recorded from the 15th century onwards. The 16th-century chapel, built by the lords of Pamele, was replaced after the fire of 1961 by a new, concrete chapel designed by architect Juliaan Lampens. The current chapel still preserves the miraculous statue of Our Lady of Kerselare, a polychrome late Gothic statue from the first half of the 15th century of the Mechelen Guild of Saint Luke.
