Clos du Germi

Le Clos du Germi is a vineyard located on a south-facing hillside overlooking the Meuse in Ampsin in the province of Liège, Belgium. During the Roman period, Julius Caesar was responsible for the introduction of Roman agriculture and viticulture. The Merovingian period marks the first traces of viticulture in the Meuse region. It was in Amay that the cultivation of the vine was mentioned in 634. In 817, the grape variety and wine were called Briolet. In the medieval period, the vine prospered from Namur to Liège passing through Huy and Amay. The clergy refined and developed viticulture. During the Ancien Régime, from the 15th century to the 17th century, wine production expanded. Vine cultivation thrived until 1914, and the last vineyard in Huy could not withstand diseases and industrialization, deteriorating by the end of World War II.
