The fortress of Raeren stands indestructible in the village. Behind the heavy walls, fragile materials are on display. The fortress houses the village's pottery museum, from which stoneware was exported all over the world from the 16th to the 19th century. More than 2000 pieces document the former significance of the stoneware.
The self-assured craftsmen did not mince words. Jan Emens-Menneken, the most famous potter of Raeren, decorated his beer pub with powerful critical church sayings - which can still be read on a jug in the display window. Roman and contemporary ceramics from the Meuse-Rhine region create a cultural-historical connection between antiquity and the present time. On request: educational programs and activities for children, students, and adults.
Every year on the second weekend of September: Euregional pottery market with 70 artists.
