52 metres high, the cybernetic tower is an abstract sculpture that is made up of an airy skeletal structure built out of steel tubes. Installed since 1961 right next to the Palais des Congrès, it is a listed part of Wallonia’s outstanding heritage. This visionary installation has an intriguing original feature... The skeletal structure is equipped with paddles of varying shapes and sizes. Its operation is based on motors actuated by an electronic brain, which trigger three types of action: movement, music, and illumination of the tower. This work by French-Hungarian artist Nicolas Schöffer, father of cybernetic art, remains his most monumental and sophisticated creation.
