It is here, at the site of the current Grétry Museum, that we find the birthplace of the most famous Liège composer. Although he never wrote lyrical pieces in Walloon, he was undeniably the subject of multiple works and pieces. Even during his lifetime, songs in his honor can be found. Cråmignons from Liège, songs, plays, and even an opera touch upon moments of his rich life. Grétry's statue itself was the subject of several dialect songs. The Grétry Museum located there was inaugurated in 1913, for the centenary of the famous composer's death, by King Albert and Queen Elisabeth. Note the three potals on the street, two of which are positioned above the entrance door, thus blessing the occupants and visitors of the house. Illu: Rue des Récollets in 1921
