Just like the monument in the King Albert Park in Kortrijk, this tank is a monument to honour the Belgian soldiers who died during the Battle of the Lys in World War II. The Battle of the Lys lasted around 18 days and cost the Belgian army 3,000 men. Most of the victims died between 23 and 28 May 1940.
