Saint Bartholomew's Church -- The church as it stands now dates from 1622, after its predecessor was destroyed by fire during the wars of religion. During World War II, a V-bomb hit the church. It was then restored for many years. The church is considered one of the most beautiful in Antwerp. A pillory or stocks was placed in front of the church at the beginning of the 18th century. The statue of Saint Bartholomew was added in 1867, after the use of the pillory had been abolished. Later, the knife, as a symbol of his martyr's death, was added to the left hand of Saint Bartholomew.
