Behind the bar of the Hotsy Totsy stood the most legendary barmaid in the whole city: Motte Claus! This lady, who also ran the Geuzenhuis, was the sister-in-law of Hugo Claus, the spirit behind the Hotsy Totsy, and a full-time role model for many a Ghent girl. Many well-known Ghent residents have come and continue to come here. Jan Hoet is one of them.
