Around 1632 Branst first appears in documents. The council of aldermen at the time issued a particularly strict decree with regard to immigrants. They not only had to present a certificate of good conduct, but also had to pay a deposit of 300 guilders. The church of Branst was built in 1900, five years after its recognition as a parish.
