Weiput is an example of how nature develops again after a disturbance. Since 1977, a clay and sand quarry has been operated on this site; later, soil from the widening of the Scheldt was dumped. When the area was later left unused, a pond with a wide reed bed gradually formed. Now there is life in the area again: various plants, fish and numerous water birds.
