Description

Uitbergen, the smallest of the three boroughs of Berlare, was already mentioned in 967 as 'Bergina', a name that refers to a high residence that was more downstream compared to Destelbergen. The church of Sint-Pietersbanden in front of you is the result of centuries of building and rebuilding. The tower with bell house still has a Romanesque origin (11th century), the choir and the nave originally date from the 14th and 16th centuries respectively, but the nave was largely rebuilt in neo-Gothic style at the beginning of the 20th century.
