Every half hour and every hour, the carillon rings its 49 bells.
If you're lucky, the bell tower may be open. If you're brave enough to take on the 208 steps, you'll be able to enjoy a magnificent view all the way to the French border.
The small park you are in is Albert Park.
The war memorial to the First World War there has probably already caught your eye.
He is vulgarly called 'The Naked Fireman' (Den Bluuten Fireman'). In the 1920s, he was at the centre of a real controversy. The people of Ronse began to militate against the monument because the soldier carrying the flag was half-naked.
I would also like to draw your attention to the bell tower of the old St. Martin's Church, whose history dates back to the 11th century. Observe the brick bell tower with the octagonal bell chamber.
These are not the remains of the original Romanesque church. This was already replaced in 1500 by a Gothic church.
In the 19th century, it underwent some expansion work as the city and the population continued to grow. However, in the late 1800s, the parish moved to another church in a new neighborhood. This church was not destroyed but was put up for public sale. It was then given various assignments: cinema, sawmill and even served as a garage.
We now continue our way along Rue St-Martin, until we reach Place Roosevelt.
