A large part of the buildings of the Beringen mine were preserved. One of them houses the Flemish Mining Museum. There the story is told of the hard toil in the Limburg subsurface. Prior to the museum visit
you see a welcome film about the social impact of the mining industry.
In the museum you will be informed in a fascinating way about the origin of coal and about mining operations. Enthusiastic former miners show the visitors around and tell them about all aspects of the heavy mining work. A reconstructed mine corridor gives a lifelike picture of the subsurface. A model evokes the above-ground activities with sound and light. It is also possible to visit the other mine buildings and installations: the bathing room, the lamp room, the occupation room and the shaft box. The mine site is open to individual visitors on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Closed on public holidays.
