Self-service ferry across the Damse Vaart.
The approximately 14 km long Damse Vaart has been connecting Bruges with Sluis since 1810. Sometimes the name Napoleon Canal is also used, because Napoleon himself ordered its construction by Spanish prisoners of war. In order not to hinder shipping on this canal, the Schipdonk Canal and the Leopold Canal were extended under the Damse Vaart when they were built, some 30 years later.
