Lampernisse has an area of 13.62 km² and has (2007 data) almost 200 inhabitants. According to measurements, it is the quietest municipality in the Westhoek.
It is more than likely the birthplace of Nicholas Zannekin, a Fleming who resisted the oppression and annexation policy of the then French king Philip VI and his supporters in Flanders. He was killed at the Battle of Kassel in 1328.
