Briek Schotte couldn't have imagined a better statue. The angular position, arms deep into the handlebars, his face reflecting sheer will power... The Tielt-based artist Jef Claerhout created the likeness of Briek with his work. Since 1996, the ‘Last of the Flandriens’ has looked out onto Kanegem village square. The statue rests on a strip of cobblestones, the symbol for the Flandriens.
