Schorisse is the birthplace of writer Omer Wattez (1857-1935), who according to some came up with the name 'Flemish Ardennes'. Wattez was an advocate for tourism in his beloved region and emphasized themes that are particularly relevant today: the protection of the living environment, a return to nature, and small-scale relaxation. In Hofveldstraat stood Brewery de Merchie. However, during World War II, production came to a halt. The former brewery is now a residential house.
