On the outside of the Zimmer tower in Lier, the jubilant clock immediately catches the eye. The colourful astronomical clock was donated to his hometown by the Lierse watchmaker Zimmer in 1930, on the occasion of one hundred years of Belgian independence. Inside the museum it seems to be rather complicated. An audio tape tells you everything about the universe. Surrounded by stars, planets, spheres, clocks and hands, the mechanism works squeaking and ticking. You can see the water movement and schedule on Earth, astronomical calculations, axis rotations of the planets, shooting stars and comets, but also upcoming solar and lunar eclipses.
