Description

In the rural village of Watou stands the Sint-Bavo church, a three-aisled hall church, which has preserved the brick part of the west façade of the central nave and the tower base from its Romanesque construction of 1150-1200. In the 16th century, the church was enlarged and gothically rebuilt. The sacristy dates from 1804, baptistery and porch are from 1837. The pseudo-Romanesque gable with rose window and part of the octagonal celebration tower are 19th century. The cross vault of 1840 was designed by priest-architect J. Clarysse.
