Houbenhof is one of the most impressive farms in the Maasland, located directly opposite the fortress town of Stevensweert (from where you also have the best view of this farm). It was (re)built in 1759 by Peter Houben. In 1944 it was burned down by the Germans but was rebuilt in 1945. The farm is situated behind the Maasdijk, on a piece of land that was spared by the gravel extraction. It also used to function as a inn for boatmen and a ferry to Stevensweert, which disappeared in 1950. The origins of this farm date back to the period 1660-1664 (purchase of land by Aert Houben). In 1681, there was already an inn established. The now non-existent facade stone mentioned 1759 as the reconstruction date for Houbenhof. In 1804 and 1810, renovations were carried out by widow C. Houben (facade stones).
Houbenhof and its surroundings were protected by ministerial decree on January 27, 2004.
