The Old Parish House at No. 46, a Baroque building, was built in 1663-1664. Initially, the building served as the seat for the Vierschaar, after which it served as a town hall until 1844. Subsequently, the Commercial Court and the Work Judges' Council were seated here.
The rococo-style staircase dates from 1776. In 1867, a statue of Saint Nicholas was added to the gable.
The building next door at no. 45 is the Cipierage. Here, as the name suggests, was once the prison of the Land of Waas located.
Lucas Faid'herbe designed it in 1661-1662 in a sober Baroque style. The parish house now houses, on the first floor, the tourist office of Sint-Niklaas. You will also find various other services in this building such as youth, participation, events, support culture and leisure (OCV) and sports.
In the stairwell you can admire the Reynaert tower on which all the animals from the famous Reynaert story are depicted. Be sure to pop in.
In the basement you will find tavern 'De Jailerskelder'.
