In 1896 Bartholomé Hanssens, mayor of Dworp, buys an old farm/dairy and converts it into a brewery. From 1929, Theo Hanssens takes over the company and the remnants of the brewery break out. In turn, Theo is succeeded by his son Jean who won the trophy of the Objectie Bierproevers in 1993. Since 1998 the company has been in the hands of Jean's daughter Sidy and wort is purchased and fermented again. The "Oud Beitje" is a strawberry lambic that is mainly promoted as an aperitif and that Hanssens Artisanal has been offering since 1999. In addition to the traditional old gueuze and old kriek, a "gueuze jam" and "kriek jam" are also offered. This jam, prepared from completely natural products, is made on the basis of old gueuze and old cherry. The range also includes a geuzecoulis and a kriekcoulis.
