The Molenbeek valley is a varied nature reserve with trouser forests, swamps, ponds, reed land and in recent years again sparse grasslands. The Molenbeek partly follows its natural course and partly a course built and straightened by human hands in function of the water mills that are built on it. The slate streams in the bowl soils were also dug by man to drain the seepage water. On the plots managed by Natuurpunt, the plantings with poplars are transformed into trouser forest or hayland.
