The chapel of Our Lady in Velde is located at the confluence of the Distelweg, the Galgenweg and the Kaasweg. This chapel is connected to the Hof te Velde. It was built around 1820-1830 by Petrus Van Espen and his wife Maria-Anna Trappeniers, the 'tenants' and owners of the Hof te Velde. Their initials can also be found on the inscription stone P.V.E. – M.A.T. According to popular tradition, this chapel was built after the death of seventy cows at the Hof te Velde. The numbers seem a bit exaggerated. Nevertheless, we can assume that the chapel was built after a cow plague. The chapel is a field chapel of sober design. From the bottom of the niche there is a brick façade. The side walls are covered with cement as well as the area around the inscription stone. The pediment is classic in model. The slate gable roof is covered with an iron cross. The front panel of the chapel consists of two staircases. The chapel is lined with lime trees. In the month of May, the Marian tribute is held here. The chapel of Our Lady in Velde used to be a processional stop. During that procession they went along the Rechtestraat to the chapel and came back through the Hof te Velde to the Haaggatstraat.
