Sint-Laureins is best known as a creek area. The Blokkreek and the Hollandersgat creek are two examples of this. Both are about 3 km long and weave their way through the flat landscape. Peat was dug here during the early Middle Ages. These wells were later eroded during numerous floods and storm surges. The creeks and dikes with their picturesque dike houses and pollard willows typify the landscape.
