Originally, this area was located outside the old city centre. The Dries was the centuries-old name for the meagre meadows, located outside the Lombard Gate. In the 16th century, the Grote Markt in front of the town hall was called Koeimarkt, written in 1521 opte coymerct. At the end of the 16th century, the centre of Tienen was moved to the Grote Markt. For example, in 1590 the Wheelbarrow is situated on the groote merckt. After the destruction of Tienen in 1635, the Dries became the new centre of the city
