You are now cycling along one of the longest streets in Brussels. Leopold I-straat (Boulevard Leopold I) connects the former village centres of Laken and Jette.
Meanwhile, urban development has caught up with the main road. The district ‘Palaces over the Bridges’, which you cross after the Bockstaelplein, was once the heart of Laken village. The secluded nature of the district, enclosed between the Palace gardens, canal and a large traffic artery, gives it a strange intimacy.
Laken church, where the Belgian monarchs are buried, can be seen at the end of the road. There is an impressive cemetery behind the church.
Address: Leopold I-straat 117, 1020 Brussel, Brussels Hoofdstedelijk Gewest, Belgium
