Until reaching Haachtsesteenweg (Chaussée de Haecht) you cycle through Lower Evere, the oldest part of the Evere district. Pretty much all of the original buildings were destroyed by bombs in the Second World War. Even so, you can still get a feeling of the old village in the street design.
For many years, Evere remained part of Brabant but, as early as the 19th century, was forced to relinquish land by the canal and around the railway to the City of Brussels. The city crept ever closer. In 1954, Evere became part of the Brussels Capital Region.
