The Wondelgemstraat is a street in Ghent that connects the center of this Belgian city with the district of Wondelgem. It runs through the Rabot neighborhood. The Wondelgemstraat is now especially known for its Turkish population and has many Turkish cafes and shops.
In the past, the Rabot neighborhood had a textile industry. Its disappearance changed the neighborhood and also the Wondelgemstraat, the shopping street of the neighborhood. In the past, the Wondelgemstraat in Ghent served as a general shopping street, like the Veldstraat still does today. However, nowadays it mainly attracts people from the neighborhood itself.
