The Volmolen was a water-powered fulling mill, located where the Dijle flows into Leuven. Both the Volmolen Bridge and the Volmolen Avenue were named after it. It was built on the lock complex De Grote Spui, one of the two water gates of the fourteenth-century city wall. It is the only remaining structure of this seven-kilometer long wall.
