The Grauwe Steen is a stray stone that was already used in the Middle Ages as a boundary stone at the five-village point where the former municipalities of Heusden, Zolder, Koersel, Houthalen and Helchteren came together. The stone is a block about one and a half meters high and several tons heavy that was brought in from the south about half a million years ago by a precursor of the current Meuse. The stone stands on the edge of the military domain, north of the terril of Zolder, southeast of Koersels Kapelleke. Both on the territory of Heusden-Zolder and on the territory of Koersel-Beringen there is a 'Road to the Grey Stone'.
