Senenne is a hamlet in the Belgian municipality of Anhée located in the Walloon Region in the province of Namur. Situated on the heights on the left bank of the Meuse, two kilometers south of the village of Anhée on the Grange road, it consists of a few buildings, some of which are very old.
On the night of May 12 to 13, 1940, Colonel Werner, leading the reconnaissance group of the 5th Armoured Division, crossed the Meuse at the Houx dam and secured a foothold on the left bank, at Mont Noir.
The Germans advanced towards Senenne where they seized the castle at six o'clock; the fighting there was serious but disproportionate, as the French troops had only a few hours to settle in.
