The Town Hall of Aalst, along with the associated Country House, is a historic building on the Grote Markt in the Belgian city of Aalst. The neoclassical town hall building on the market side was constructed around 1830 under the guidance of the Ghent architect Louis Roelandt. Behind the façade, adorned with the city coat of arms, lies the city banquet hall spanning two floors. Surrounding the courtyard are the Rococo-style buildings of the former country house. They were built as residences and service buildings for the Main College of the Land of Aalst. The elaborately designed gable of the main building, with its sundial and oculus, is flanked by the memorial to the fallen from 1830 and the bronze statue of Ondineke. Ondineke is the main character from the book ‘De Kapellekensbaan’ by Louis Paul Boon.
