Description

This bicycle and pedestrian bridge will be in use from Saturday 1 September 2018.

The new bridge replaces the 'footbridge' between Aard and Kapellendries, which is outdated and no longer meets current comfort and user requirements. In addition, the bridge is too low for a lot of shipping traffic. The new bridge has a vertical clearance of 7 metres, so that 'three-layer container ships' can also pass underneath it. In doing so, we are contributing to the European and Flemish plans to make the Upper Sea Scheldt more navigable. The design of the bridge is also in line with the urban renewal project 'Wetteren aan de Schelde', with which the municipality wants to restore the link with the river.
