Solbosch

In the Elsense neighborhood of Solbosch, the founder of information science, Paul Otlet, along with his friend La Fontaine, opened their International Museum. It was revolutionary as a concept: it was meant to be a place of knowledge and study for everyone, not just the intellectual elite. You could see illustrations of the history of mankind, science, technology, and culture. The aim of all this was to make Brussels a Cité Mondiale, a stronghold where all the knowledge of the world would be gathered in the service of understanding between peoples and races. Otlet also wanted a first world government to be established here that would operate above national governments.
