Description

Moortebeek is a district of the municipality of Anderlecht. The district is connected to the neighbouring Sint-Jans-Molenbeek. It is an example of a garden city. Moortebeek is quite green. You will find numerous streets that refer to writers. Pascal Verbeken indicates in his book Brutopia that this is a hint to the inhabitants to "by reading the classics one can rise out of the state of ignorance". That certainly worked out with Doctor Albert Marteaux who grew up here. He became the only communist minister in Belgian history.
