The Memorial 22/03 is a memorial monument for the terrorist attacks of 2016, located in the Sonian Forest in Uccle in the Brussels-Capital Region. The Sonian Forest was chosen because this place exudes tranquility. The monument was built following the attacks of March 22, 2016. In the first bombing at Brussels Airport, 12 people lost their lives. More than an hour later, another attack took place in Maalbeek, resulting in 20 fatalities. The memorial monument in the Sonian Forest came about after the relatives of one of the victims asked Céline Fremault, the Brussels Minister of Environment, for a commemorative tree. Ultimately, this idea led to the monument.
