Situated on the right bank of the Meuse Valley, upstream of Dinant, the Freyr rocks represent one of the most attractive rock formations in Wallonia, both from a landscape perspective and a scientific one, with its multiple interests (geomorphological, geological, botanical, etc.). They are also a very popular location for climbing. The flora and vegetation show remarkable characteristics, such as the presence of rock grasslands with leaning fescue (Festuca pallens), fragments of calcicole beech forests, and the abundance of certain rare species such as the service tree (Sorbus aria) and the wild cotoneaster (Cotoneaster integerrimus). The fauna has paradoxically been little studied so far, but the site presents at least a significant malacological and entomological interest. Among the typical animal species of rocky places are the wall butterfly (Lasiommata maera), a day butterfly with a very localized distribution, and the common wall lizard (Podarcis muralis), a reptile commonly found in the Meuse Valley. The presence of an emblematic beetle, the stag beetle (Lucanus cervus), is also reported.
