Located in Western Hainaut, west of Mons between the Nimy-Blaton canal to the north and the canalized Haine to the south, this vast wetland was once renowned for its exceptional botanical richness. Following various disturbances (filling, drainage, etc.), the site has lost much of its value but remains interesting due to the coexistence of different biotopes (pond, reedbed, wasteland, wet meadows, etc.) still hosting some remarkable species for the region. In terms of ornithology, one can observe, for example, the nesting of the bluethroat (Luscinia svecica) and the little ringed plover (Charadrius dubius). Since 1997, the Douvrain marsh has held the status of a wetland of biological interest (WBI).
Public access: In the fall of 2014, the DNF plans to dig at least 10 ponds and to enhance an area of one hectare, along with pond excavations, in order to increase the site's capacity for the calamity toad.
Type: Site of Great Biological Interest (GBI)
