This little-known site extends to the south of Herlinval, a hamlet of Ortho, on the left slope of the western Ourthe valley. It includes heather heathland and acidophilic grasslands on schist outcrops largely exposed to the south, thus very thermophilic. The place is traversed by an ancient schist path in which the groove carved into the stone by the wheels of carts is visible. Among the remarkable plant species recorded here, the delicate bird's foot (Ornithopus perpusillus), a very rare legume in the Ardennes, and the hairy broom (Genista pilosa), which is in clear decline throughout Wallonia, stand out in particular. The cryptogamic flora is also of great interest with the presence of numerous lichens, including various species of cladonies. This exceptional site for the region is devoid of protection status and located outside the Natura 2000 perimeter.
