Minuscule tribut of the Dyle, the Ruisseau des Balaux springs from the hamlet of Rofessart, northwest of Ottignies. After passing under the Brussels-Namur railway line, the watercourse drains a wetland area consisting of forested parts and open areas occupied by fragments of marshes, herbaceous wetlands, and fallow meadows, all over a distance of 1.5 kilometers. Located outside the Natura 2000 network, the site is still little-known and its biological interest is insufficiently documented. It hosts at least four species of amphibians as well as one reptile, the viviparous lizard (Zootoca vivipara), which is becoming increasingly localized in Brabant.
