Minuscule zijrivier van de Dyle, de Ruisseau des Balaux ontspringt in het gehucht Rofessart, in het noordwesten van Ottignies. Na zijn doorgang onder de spoorlijn Brussel-Namen, drainagt de waterloop een nat gebied dat bestaat uit bosgebieden en open zones die worden bezet door fragmenten van moerassen, megaforbiën en braakliggende weilanden, alles over een afstand van 1,5 kilometer. Gelegen buiten het Natura 2000-netwerk, is de site nog weinig gekend en zijn biologische belang is onvoldoende gedocumenteerd. Het herbergt ten minste vier soorten amfibieën evenals een reptiel, de levendbarende hagedis (Zootoca vivipara), die steeds meer gelokaliseerd wordt in Brabant.
