The last owner, Alfons Claeys Boúúaert van den Peereboom, lived in the castle until 1971. The park with the surrounding lands was shortly thereafter purchased by the then municipality of Mariakerke. It is now owned by the city of Ghent. The Center for Young Art (CJK) found a home there.
