The castle of Vinderhoute was rebuilt in 1544 by Lieven van Pottelsberghe in its current form. The beautiful gentleman's quarters were completely watered down. On the death of Count Carnin and Staden in 1830, the entire contents were sold publicly, resulting in the loss of valuable works of art. In 1830 the castle was sold to the then mayor De Schietere de Caprijcke. Forests and meadows around the castle were then a stopping place for numerous herons. The inhabitants of Vinderhoute owe their nickname to this. This very old estate was already mentioned in the year 1549 as the property Christoffels Stalle located behind the church with ramparts, ponds, forest and land. Currently inhabited by its owner Mr. André Stubbe. The divided facades, the terrace surrounded by sandstone columns and the beautiful hovings recall the grandeur and splendor of earlier generations.
