The Kerkstraat (since 2019 Oude Kerkstraat) is one of the most important streets in Sint-Amands. There are several listed houses from the 17th and 18th centuries, including the former inn 'A la Belle Alliance' with a neo-Flemish Renaissance style.
The street is dominated by the Amanduskerk with its proud tower. With its 67 meters, it is the highest tower in Klein-Brabant. In the night of 3 to 4 August 1865, the tower was reduced to ashes by a lightning strike. The French-speaking Flemish poet Emile Verhaeren, who was born in Sint-Amands, incorporated this event into the poem 'Le Sonneur' ('The Hunchback').
