On the banks of the Leie, in the center of Afsnee, stands the 10th-century St. John the Baptist Church, a simple church originally Romanesque. The eye-catchers inside include a baptismal font from 1601 with a 19th-century copper lid, a wooden statue of Christ from around 1700 in the choir, the calvary triptych and the restored Lovaert organ. In 2012, a stained glass window was installed in the right transept by atelier Mestdagh from Ghent, designed by Ingrid Meyvaert. It represents the baptism of Christ by St. John the Baptist. In the cemetery around the church are tombstones from the 18th century and more recent graves of well-known names such as Count De Hemptinne and painter Karel De Bondt.
This largely Romanesque St. John the Baptist church, together with the 18th-century rectory and the streets of the area, belongs to the protected village view of Afsneedorp. With the cemetery all around, it is picturesquely situated along the banks of the Lys. The church is built on a small mound (hill) to protect it from flooding.
