In the 19th and 20th centuries, buildings whose iron sandstone was in poor condition were restored. This was often done by replacing the bad stone. In the beginning there were still enough grooves active, but in the seventies of the last century, old grooves were reopened. Stonemasons were virtually non-existent in the Hageland. They came from Wallonia or from 'de Vlaanders'. Today there are no grooves available. The limited stocks of Hageland iron sandstone were recycled during demolition works.
