The presbytery dates from the first quarter of the 17th century. The parish was served by the Norbertines of Averbode. Built in 1624, it is the oldest of the existing Norbertine parishes. The fact that Wezemaal was a well-known and rich place of pilgrimage shows itself in this beautiful building. Striking is the gatehouse with pigeon tower. The whole is surrounded by a parsonage garden of about 1.5 hectares. The pastors lived within the shelter of the canal and could only go out along the drawbridge. In times of war, this shelter was not a luxury. Three sides are surrounded by a high brick wall. In the garden itself there are two hills and there is an interesting yew architecture. It is clear that this quiet place is meant for meditation and prayer.
In this construction period, iron sandstone was only partially used. Especially in constructions that came into contact with water, such as the bridge at the gatehouse, this stone proved its usefulness perfectly.
